While 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) technology is fine for many existing deployments, it does not deliver the bandwidth required by cloud and Web-scale environments efficiently.
To address high performance network and scalability required by next generation cloud and Web-scale environments, Cavium joined industry leaders in the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium, which adopted a
specification for single-lane 25GbE and dual-lane 50GbE links. As a result of industry demand, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) also unanimously agreed to support the development
of 25GbE standards for servers and switching. 25GbE standards leverage existing 100GbE standards (IEEE 802.3bj) that are based on four 25GbE lanes.
Cavium has made 25GbE a reality with Cavium FastLinQ® 45000 and 41000 Series of Intelligent Ethernet and Converged Network adapters. These adapters are part
of the latest generation of Cavium high performance adapters that will include a family of 10/25/40/50/100GbE options.
Maximize Performance and Scalability
Web-scale and cloud organizations can enjoy 2.5x the throughput per lane vs. 10GbE. Since 25GbE is delivered across a single-lane, it provides greater switch port density and network scalability compared
to 40GbE, which uses four lanes.
Lower Capital and Operating Expenses
Deploying 25GbE networks enables organizations to significantly reduce the required number of switches and cables, along with savings for space, power and cooling compared to 10GbE and 40GbE. Fewer
network components also reduce ongoing management and maintenance costs.
Future Upgrade Path
Cavium 25GbE Intelligent Ethernet Adapters are standards-based, ensuring interoperability with a wide range of network solutions, while providing an easy upgrade path to 100GbE networks that use multiple
