Advantech Unveils Support For Cavium's TurboDPI™ II on New Packetarium™ Network Processor Platform and High-end ATCA Blade
Cavium OCTEON® II based platforms target rapid development and deployment of new content-aware applications in security and network management markets
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Feb. 19th, 2013 – Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW) today made multiple announcements extending their solutions for the Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) market. The new NCP-3110 Packetarium Network Processor System was introduced to fill the roles of DPI development platform and entry-level 40Gbps deployment system. Also being introduced is support for Cavium’s TurboDPI II software on both the new NCP-3110 1U System and the Advantech ATCA-7310 Node Blade which provides a highly scalable base for DPI application deployment. The new solutions are targeted at content-aware applications such as security gateways, network management and multimedia streaming servers.

The NCP-3110 1U Packetarium System is based on a single Cavium OCTEON II CN6880 with 32 MIPS64® processors and capable of a maximum performance up to 40Gbps. The system has 10 ports, eight 1Gb RJ45 and two 10Gb SFP+, plus 2 USB, a RJ45 management and one console ports. The system also supports two SATA 2.5” drives.
Also based on the OCTEON II CN6880 processor, the high-end ATCA-7310 blade features dual processors, each with 32 MIPS64 cores for a total of 64x 64-bit cores per blade with a maximum performance up to 80Gbps per blade. With an efficient thermal design, the blade provides significant processing per watt performance advantages over competitive architectures. The blade supports up to 64GB of DDR3-1066 memory with a Broadcom BCM56842 40GbE switch. Four 10G/40G Fabric interfaces (40GBase-KR4, 10GBase-KX4) are supported with 8 lanes of 10GbE and 4 lanes of 1GbE to the RTM for uplinks. The blade provides support for dynamic clock and cores management, console server, remote upgrade and LMP boot image supporting HPM.1.
Cavium’s TurboDPI II solution consists of carrier-grade, deep packet inspection software which can be utilized inline or out of band to detect hundreds of protocols. TurboDPI’s patented Uni-Scan technology offers an additional three-fold performance boost by performing multiple detection scans in a single pass. The system is able to achieve this efficiency by taking advantage of OCTEON’s hardware acceleration features, such as hyper finite automata (HFA pattern matching engine). The TurboDPI system comes with built-in support for up to nine critical DPI detection, extraction and insertion functions. The protocol detection engine is supported by signature-, port- and heuristics-based detection systems, all of which can be updated dynamically. Similarly, the anti-malware and anti-virus system can be easily updated, either manually or using an automated third-party profiling service. TurboDPI II can handle up to 40Gbps of protocol detection and application recognition processing per 32 core OCTEON processor.
