Overture Networks Selects Cavium Networks OCTEON Plus Processors to Boost ISG Carrier Ethernet Aggregation System

OCTEON MIPS64 Multi-Core Processors Power the Overture ISG 6000

Research Triangle Park, NC and Mountain View, CA - May 13, 2009 - Overture Networks, the industry's trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider , today announced it has selected Cavium Networks' (NASDAQ:CAVM), OCTEON MIPS64 Multi-Core processors to further expand the features of its ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet aggregation system. Overture Networks is using the capabilities of the OCTEON processor to deliver a dense, flexible and cost-effective solution for aggregation of Carrier Ethernet services.

The ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet Aggregation System, with its MaestrOST operating system, is specifically designed to seamlessly unite the three worlds of Ethernet, IP and TDM at the network edge, accelerating the transformation to Carrier Ethernet infrastructure and services. The first of a new family of products from Overture Networks, the ISG 6000 fits neatly between the costs of the point products and big iron products. It offers the complete set of services required for a provider to Ethernet-enable their infrastructure and to take advantage of the cost benefits of an all-packet network.

The ISG 6000 comes standard with four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and two interface slots for adding more Ethernet ports or reaching hundreds of customers across SDH/SONET, PDH or copper connections. Whether the last mile is fiber, copper or an existing SDH/SONET network, the ISG 6000 will help deliver and manage ubiquitous Carrier Ethernet and IP services and reach customer sites from a single aggregation platform regardless of the access infrastructure in place. The ISG 6000 is available with direct Ethernet connections and a variety of TDM interfaces, including channelized and clear channel SDH/SONET and DS3/E3 that support single and bonded links to provide aggregation of up to 672 Carrier Ethernet and IP connections to all customer locations.

The OCTEON processor family offers high performance and extremely low power for intelligent packet and protocol processing applications and service deployments. It offers the choices of 1 to 16 custom 64-bit cnMIPS cores operating at 300-800MHz frequency, with multiple price, performance and interface options. The OCTEON family integrates up to 2MB L2 cache, QoS, TCP, packet and security coprocessors with a rich set of interfaces such as TDM/PCM, multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, XAUI, PCI or PCI Express, and USB 2.0
