PACKETEER® COLLABORATES WITH CAVIUM TO DEVELOP INDUSTRY LEADING NETWORK TRAFFIC PROCESSING SOLUTIONS

Packeteer’s Leading Network Visibility with Cavium’s OCTEON Processors
Will Deliver High Performance, High Throughput Application Intelligence Technology

Cupertino, Calif. – January 14, 2008 – Packeteer® (NASDAQ: PKTR), the global leader in WAN application delivery, and Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing in networking, communications, storage and security applications, today announced a technology collaboration to deliver the industry’s highest speed network traffic processing solutions. With this collaboration, Packeteer will combine its leading network traffic visibility and control technology with Cavium’s OCTEON Multicore MIPS64 processors to create a series of high-throughput, high performance traffic processing solutions that will enable the fastest available intelligent application processing for distributed applications in environments requiring multi-gigabit traffic monitoring and real time policy enforcement response. The first solution to be released as part of this collaboration will be Packeteer’s new high throughput product architecture, codenamed “Turbo,” which will vastly increase the capacity of Packeteer’s high-end PacketShaper® 10000 product.

“Packeteer is focused on delivering the highest performance for network intelligence, policy response times and application and service delivery,” said Dave Côté, president and CEO of Packeteer. “In selecting Cavium, Packeteer has chosen a partner with mature, high throughput traffic processing technology and a future roadmap that dovetails with our vision of intelligent service assurance. Our collaboration with Cavium will continue to distinguish Packeteer with technology that moves well beyond mere application acceleration to enable high performance application and service delivery to any user anywhere in the enterprise.”

Cavium’s technology has set the standard for high performance and robust functionality in network processing. This collaboration with Cavium will enable Packeteer to dramatically increase the performance of the compression, encryption and processing offloading technologies in its network optimization solutions. At the same time Cavium’s technology will enable Packeteer’s solutions to reach network traffic throughput speeds of up to 20 Gbps, a critical performance benchmark for the successful delivery of next-generation, high-performance applications for enterprises and service providers.

“In surveying customers of WAN Optimization solution providers for our recent network visibility and WAN Optimization benchmark report, we found that high performance application visibility and policy enforcement response times are the hallmarks of best-in-class enterprises,” said Bojan Simic, research analyst, network management for Aberdeen Group. “At the same time, Aberdeen found that Packeteer users were ahead of users of other solutions when it comes to bandwidth utilization and application availability. Based on these findings, we believe that Packeteer’s collaboration with Cavium will deliver a strategic alignment of technologies to address enterprise requirements and build on Packeteer’s end user satisfaction.”

“Cavium is committed to helping Packeteer achieve its goals of high performance application and service delivery using our OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processors,” said Rajiv Khemani, vice president of marketing and sales of Cavium Networks. “Through this collaboration we will be incorporating Packeteer’s ongoing feedback and requirements into future generations of our OCTEON processors to aid Packeteer in pushing the performance envelope for its next generation application delivery solutions.”
